The Batty's Bath Story
Batty's Bath started out of a need and pure love. You see "Batty" a/k/a Jamie developed her creations to address specific skin care situations she and her husband (then fiancé) Drew were having – a severe reaction to another soap product for Drew (it was pretty scary) and a "forever battle with acne" for Jamie.
Drew's frighteningly severe reaction to that handmade soap purchased at a craft fair Jamie was a vendor at made Jamie determined to make high quality hand made products that were not only safe for sensitive skin – but were actually beneficial. And, when we say beneficial – we mean for both healthy skin & body and for the environment.
Before long Jamie had developed a line of products that had finally cleared up her acne, a line of soaps that even the most sensitive skin could tolerate, and a line of hair care products that nurtured and cleansed without stripping the hair of its natural oils.
Jamie's goodies were starting to catch on….
Friends and family members of Jamie's were enjoying her "wares" and soon all the products in their showers and baths were "Jamie's." After several years, word of mouth had spread and the demand for Jamie's hand made products was becoming more than a hobby! Jamie has to manage two chronic illnesses plus at the time had a part-time job and was attending university full-time – so that's when Batty's Bath was truly born….
Early 2009…
"Batty's Bath" went from a hobby to a full-fledged business and given its name. Jamie and Drew spent a year preparing to launch. During this time Batty's Bath formulas were approved by Health Canada and Jamie made the switch from working outside the home to working from home and finding better ways to manage her health.
By mid-February 2010...
Batty's Bath officially opened its virtual doors online at BattysBath.com and BattysBath.etsy.com. By March of 2010, Jamie was fully immersed in the craft show circuit, and was offering home parties by May 2010. In the summer of 2010, Weezi, a local fashion studio, started carrying Batty's Bath. Soon after, Weezi started hosting an event celebrating women in the handmade business every five weeks or so called "Beehives, Bubbles, and Bows" with Batty's Bath and Scissor Kitty as the special guests.
Today...
Ever since Jamie's obsession for creating bath & body products began – her care and devotion to skin loving products has not changed. Everything is made in small batches with an emphasis on the comfort and well being of every person using her products. Customers are not just customers to Jamie – they are extensions of the friends and family who enjoyed her bath & body creations long before she opened Batty's Bath. Jamie still looks to her supporters for their honest feedback – one of the things that helped Jamie perfect her formulas from the start.
Jamie continues to see her business as more than just a resource to pamper the people you love with luxury bath products. She also sees it as a way to embrace her tree hugging and humanitarian ways by choosing only the finest, local, free trade compliant, eco-friendly/sustainable, and cruelty free ingredients.
Jamie has taken her efforts even further by running a recycling program, packaging orders in reusable, eco friendly cloth drawstring bags, and keeping product packaging as eco-friendly as possible by using minimal packing materials and wrapping her cold press soaps in "scrap, reclaimed materials."
Jamie counts her blessings every day to be able to offer simple, practical luxury that everyone can indulge in. She's also eternally grateful to all those who have supported, and continue to support her and her soapy adventures. It's because of her supporters that she's able to feel a sense of accomplishment and contribute to her family despite chronic pain, fatigue and complications.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting my creative spirit soar! It's because of your support that I'm able to embrace all that this world has to offer and share my happiness with those around me!"
